This Was Totally a Foul on the US, Right?

Don't even get me started on this one. I have rewinded, reviewed, and scrutinized this one over and over. I saw nothing the US did here that would constitute them taking away a perfectly good goal. This is the second time a major goal has been taken away from us in the World Cup.
I just learned that soccer only has one ref. Am I right? I've reffed enough basketball games to know how easy it is to make a bad call, especially when there is a big group of players and a lot of commotion.
Granted, these guys are professionals at what they do, but shouldn't there be a little leniency granted in these cases?
Jer, there are two linesmen who can notify the head ref if they see a foul. There is also a fourth official who stands at the 50 yard line that can talk to the head ref over headset usually if he sees something. This is actually how Zidane got his red card for headbutting when the head ref didn't see it.

They are just giving them a hug.
